Chief Justice Cheung to visit Beijing

HONG KONG - Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal Andrew Cheung Kui-nung will fly to Beijing on Sunday evening for a four-day visit, including a meeting with the new President of the Supreme People's Court, Chief Justice Zhang Jun.

Cheung will also be visit the smart court laboratory of the Supreme People's Court, the Beijing Financial Court and the Beijing International Commercial Court to discuss issues related to professional judicial work and the use of technology in court operations, according to a statement from the Judiciary.

Other Judiciary officials joining Cheung in his visit include Chief Judge of the High Court Justice Jeremy Poon Shiu-chor, Vice-President of the Court of Appeal of the High Court Justice Carlye Chu Fun-ling,  and Judiciary Administrator Esther Leung Yuet-yin

Cheung will pay courtesy calls on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Basic Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Justice, and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council.

Other Judiciary officials joining Cheung in his visit include Chief Judge of the High Court Justice Jeremy Poon Shiu-chor, Vice-President of the Court of Appeal of the High Court Justice Carlye Chu Fun-ling,  and Judiciary Administrator Esther Leung Yuet-yin.

During Cheung's absence from Hong Kong, Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal Justice Roberto Alexandre Vieira Ribeiro will be the Acting Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal.
