Host fails to reach last eight of Hong Kong Rugby Sevens

HONG KONG - Hong Kong, China failed to move into the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens after suffering consecutive defeats on Saturday at the Hong Kong Stadium.

Having lost to France in the opening match, Hong Kong, China took an early lead against Britain in its second group match, but five players scored tries to help Britain turn the game around 33-12.

Hong Kong, China was once 19-0 down in a later fixture against Uruguay, before conceding its third consecutive group defeat 24-14. The host had to participate in the ninth-place QF.

Fiji, France and New Zealand all moved into the last eight with a perfect group record, while the United States topped Group C with seven points, and the defending champion Australia finished third in the same group.

In the women's series, Hong Kong, China capped off its campaign as the bottom side after suffering three successive defeats on Saturday.
