Norrie surges into Rio Open last 16

RIO DE JANEIRO - British second seed Cameron Norrie advanced to the last 16 of the Rio Open with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Tuesday.

Norrie won 79 percent of his first service points and saved four of five break points against him to take the match in one hour and 28 minutes on the outdoor clay of the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro.

Cerundolo, currently ranked 31st, served three double faults and won just 52 percent of all points on his serve.

Meanwhile, top-seed Carlos Alcaraz was beating local favorite Matheus Alves 6-4, 5-3 before the clash was suspended because of heavy rain.

Others to advance to the tournament's last 16 on Tuesday included Roberto Carballes Baena and Francisco Cerundolo.
