BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.42 percent to 3,255.67 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.80 percent lower at 12,001.26 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 900.2 billion yuan ($133.16 billion), down from 1.06 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to chemical fiber, motorcycle and cement sectors were among the biggest winners, while those in the liquor-making, hotel and tourism, and medical equipment sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.26 percent to close at 2,580.84 points Tuesday.
