China's Urumqi to resume express delivery as COVID wanes

URUMQI - Urumqi, the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, will gradually resume its express delivery services and operation of logistics companies in low-risk areas from Tuesday, as the COVID-19 pandemic has waned in the city.

Fang Tao, head of the city's postal administration, said efforts will be made to step up the processing of backlogged parcels and mail.

With COVID-19 control measures in place, the city has restored public transport in a gradual and orderly manner from Monday. It has also begun to resume the operations of essential businesses in low-risk areas, including supermarkets, pharmacies and restaurants.

Although community transmission in the city has been basically cut off, the city still has a number of high-risk areas and local residents still need to be on high alert for the virus, the city government said Sunday.
