Philippines' COVID-19 cases breach 4m mark in total

MANILA / SINGAPORE / HANOI / YANGON – The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines passed the 4 million mark after the Department of Health reported 1,551 new infections on Friday.

The DOH said 38 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, taking the death toll to 63,959.

India

NEW DELHI / KUALA LUMPUR – India recorded 1,574 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally to 44,650,662, showed data released by the federal health ministry on Saturday.

The daily caseload marked a decline from the 2,208 cases reported on Friday. 

The South Asian country also logged nine more COVID-19 related deaths during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 529,008 since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the federal health ministry.

Malaysia

Malaysia recorded 3,296 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the total tally to 4,893,733, according to the health ministry.

The new infections were 10 new imported cases and 3,286 local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

One new death was reported from the pandemic, taking the death toll to 36,463.

Myanmar

Myanmar confirmed 132 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 631,367, according to the Ministry of Health on Friday.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country reached 19,481 on Friday as one new death was reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Singapore

Singapore reported 5,301 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the country's total tally to 2,091,889.

Of the new cases, 521 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 4,780 through ARTs (antigen rapid test), according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 499 were local transmissions and 22 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 4,427 local transmissions and 353 imported cases.

Two more deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Friday, taking the total death toll to 1,672.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 641 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, up by 157 from Thursday, according to its ministry of health.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,501,906. The country reported no new deaths from the pandemic on Friday, with the total fatalities staying at 43,162.
