Talent demand among A-share listed companies in the nine mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is growing, with the number of job postings and average salaries rising in most cities last year, according to a recent report.

Shenzhen and Guangzhou remained the two cities with the highest demand for professionals, as job postings by A-share listed companies in the two cities accounted for 75 percent of the total hires in the nine Guangdong cities last year, said the report, compiled jointly by the Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School and the Shenzhen Finance Institute.

Dongguan’s listed companies on the A-share market saw the biggest increase in demand for workers, with 549 firms publishing job offers last year, 119 more than in 2017. It was followed by Foshan, which had 502.

The number of public firms in the other five mainland cities in the GBA — Huizhou, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing — posting job ads all increased over the five-year period.

The results of the report were based on job postings data released by 3,708 A-share listed companies on mainstream recruitment platforms from 2017 through 2021.

According to the report, all the mainland GBA cities except Zhuhai and Zhaoqing saw their listed companies’ average annual salary for talent increase from 2017 to 2021. The biggest growth was seen in Shenzhen, followed by Guangzhou and Foshan.

Electronics was the industry with the largest demand for talent in the nine Guangdong cities, as the number of such job offers in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhuhai and Jiangmen ranking first among all sectors in 2021.

Computer professionals were most needed by public firms in Guangzhou, while those in the traditional manufacturing hub of Foshan recruited professionals in household electric appliances the most.
