Survey: 20th National Congress boosts HK residents' confidence

HONG KONG – About 67 percent of respondents in a survey in Hong Kong conducted by a local think tank agreed that the success of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has increased their confidence in the city.

Over 69.2 percent of respondents said the plans outlined during the congress have boosted their confidence in the country’s development.

From October 17 to 23, the Bauhinia Institute conducted telephone interviews with 1,193 Hong Kong residents. 

About 74.7 percent of those interviewed said they were paying close attention to the congress, and 62.5 percent said they support the Chinese path to modernization chartered by the CPC.

More than half of the respondents said they believe that Hong Kong will play a more significant role in the country’s modernization after General Secretary Xi Jinping announced in his speech that the central government will continue to support the integration of Hong Kong into the nation’s overall development.

The Bauhinia Institute called on the SAR government to continue to uphold the principle of “patriots administering Hong Kong” and adhere to “people-oriented” governance, so as to lead Hong Kong towards playing a greater role in the national rejuvenation.
