HANOI / MANILA / SINGAPORE / YANGON / KUALA LUMPUR / SEOUL / NEW DELHI - Vietnam recorded 158 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, down by 317 from Saturday, according to its ministry of health.

This is the lowest number recorded in the country in nearly one year, said the ministry, adding that all the new cases were locally transmitted.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,496,987. The country reported no new deaths from the pandemic on Sunday, with the total fatalities staying at 43,159.

Nationwide, 10,600,965 COVID-19 patients, or over 92 percent of the total infections, have recovered.

Nearly 261.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, including over 221.2 million shots on people aged 18 and above, said the ministry.

Vietnam has already recorded COVID-19 infections with the Omicron BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.12.1 and BA.2.74 sub-variants and is accelerating the inoculation of its people with a fourth vaccine dose.

India

India reported 1,334 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total tally to 44,644,076 in the country, according to the federal health ministry's data released on Monday morning.

The cases reported on Monday mark a decrease in comparison to the daily caseload of Sunday (1,994). 

With the reporting of the fresh cases, India's active caseload stands at 23,193. 

The country logged 16 related deaths, pushing the overall death toll to 528,977 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 2,054 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Sunday, bringing the national total to 4,882,059, according to the health ministry.

One new imported case was reported, with 2,053 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

No new deaths have been reported, leaving the death toll at 36,444.

Myanmar

Myanmar confirmed 158 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's total tally to 630,603, according to its Ministry of Health on Sunday.

The ministry said in a statement that health authorities tested 8,553 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 1.85 percent.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country reached 19,476 on Sunday as one new death was reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Pakistan

Pakistan reported 35 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country's ministry of health said on Monday.

The overall tally of infected people climbed to 1,573,725 across the South Asian country after adding the fresh cases, according to the data released by the ministry.

A total of 30,621 people died of COVID-19 in Pakistan, with no more death over the last 24 hours, according to the ministry's statistics.

Philippines

The Philippines reported 1,585 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, pushing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,994,634.

The Department of Health said the number of active cases dropped to 23,369, while 37 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, pushing the country's death toll to 63,779.

Metro Manila, the capital region with over 13 million people, tallied 465 new cases.

Singapore

Singapore reported 4,454 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total tally to 2,064,163.

Of the new cases, 547 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 3,907 through ARTs (antigen rapid test), according to statistics released by the country's Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 531 were local transmissions and 16 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 3,749 local transmissions and 158 imported cases.

Two more deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 1,662.

South Korea

South Korea reported 14,302 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 25,311,636, the health authorities said Monday.

The daily caseload was down from 26,256 in the previous day, but it was higher than 11,025 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

For the past week, the daily average number of confirmed cases was 25,759.

Among the new cases, 56 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 69,286.

Ten more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 29,000. The total fatality rate was 0.11 percent.
