Singapore reports 7,247 new COVID-19 cases

SINGAPORE / YANGON / MANILA / HANOI / NEW DELHI / KUALA LUMPUR – Singapore reported 7,247 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the country's total tally to 2,053,370.

Singapore reported one new death from COVID-19 on Friday, taking the total death toll to 1,660

Of the new cases, 639 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 6,608 through ARTs (antigen rapid test), according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 624 were local transmissions and 15 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 6,361 local transmissions and 247 imported cases.

The country reported one new death from COVID-19 on Friday, taking the total death toll to 1,660.

India

India's daily COVID-19 caseload decreased to 2,112 on Saturday, officials said.

The country also logged four COVID-19 related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,957 since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, the ministry said.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 2,256 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Friday, bringing the national total to 4,877,387, according to the health ministry.

There are six new imported cases, with 2,250 cases being local transmissions, data released by the ministry showed.

Three new deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,440.

Myanmar

Myanmar confirmed 257 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally to 630,183, according to the country's Ministry of Health on Friday.

The ministry said in a statement that the death toll from COVID-19 in the country reached 19,473 on Friday after one new death was reported.

The Philippines

The Philippines reported 1,984 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, pushing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,991,441.

The Department of Health said the number of active cases rose to 24,192, while 37 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, pushing the country's death toll to 63,706.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 582 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, up 41 from Thursday, according to the Ministry of Health.

All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the ministry.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,496,354. The country reported no new deaths from the pandemic on Friday, with the total fatalities staying at 43,159.
