NEW YORK - Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with various global dignitaries on the sidelines of the ongoing 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

Wang affirmed China’s abiding friendship and strong ties with different countries that sent delegations to the assembly of world leaders and top diplomats.

Serbia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Sept 21 met with Wang and asked him to convey his cordial greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying Serbia-China relations truly reflect mutual respect and mutual trust, and the practical economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has also developed rapidly. He once again thanked China for its vigorous support for and assistance with Serbia's economic and social development.

Wang conveyed Xi's cordial greetings to Vucic, saying China appreciates Serbia's solidarity in safeguarding national sovereignty, national dignity and legitimate rights and interests.

Georgia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Wang on Sept 21 and said Georgia appreciates China for its help in the country's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and will continue to adhere to the one-China principle and uphold justice on China-related issues.

Georgia admires China for achieving impressive development achievements, which have greatly improved the people's well-being, supports and actively participates in the Belt and Road cooperation, and looks forward to fully utilizing its geographical advantages so as to develop regional cooperation corridors, he said.

Russia

Wang met on Sept 21 with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who wished the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China a full success, and believed China will make new and greater achievements in national construction.

He said Russia is willing to make joint efforts with China to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Samarkand summit, and continuously advance bilateral practical cooperation.

For his part, Wang said the heads of state of the two countries held an important meeting and reached new common understandings in Samarkand, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations.

EU

Wang also met with European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on Sept 21 and said that China and the EU, as two major forces in a multi-polar world, should shoulder their due responsibilities, stick to the basic position of being strategic partner each other, and maintain the sound momentum of dialogue and communication.

The two sides should adhere to mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, reject attempts at decoupling or severing supply chains, Wang said, noting that the two sides should uphold multilateralism and oppose camp confrontation.

Hungary

Wang met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto on Sept 21 and said that thanks to the strategic guidance by the two countries' leaders, China and Hungary enjoy a good relationship, as both countries always adhere to an independent policy, sincere friendship with each other and win-win cooperation.

China appreciates Hungary's firm stance on friendly policies towards China, firm adherence to the one-China principle and upholding of a fair stance on issues related to China's core interests, said Wang.

Somalia

Wang on Sept 21 met with Somali Foreign Minister Abshir Omar Huruse and said the traditional friendship between China and Somalia is an important component of China-Africa friendship.

Somalia is the first East African country that established diplomatic relations with New China, said Wang, adding that the two countries always respect each other and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests.

Poland

Wang met with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau on Sept 21 and recalled the third plenary session of China-Poland Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee in June this year, which synergized and implemented bilateral cooperation in various fields.

China is willing to strengthen strategic alignment with Poland and promote cooperation in various fields including China-Europe freight train services, civil aviation, agriculture, and investment, said Wang.

Norway

Also on Sept 21, Wang met with Foreign Minister of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt and said that, in recent years, the practical cooperation between the two countries has made positive progress, noting that bilateral trade last year increased by nearly 40 percent year-on-year, the FTA has entered the final stage, and a new version of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement is about to be signed.

Facing transformations and chaos in the world, stability and confidence are more important than gold, he said, adding that the two sides should respect each other and treat each other as equals, enhance understanding, eliminate misunderstandings, maintain the sound momentum of healthy and stable development of China-Norway ties, strengthen exchanges at all levels, and stimulate practical cooperation for more results.

Portugal

Wang also met with his Portuguese counterpart, Joao Gomes Cravinho, on Sept 21 and said that the China-Portugal relationship has stood the test of the international landscape changes and achieved sound development on the basis of mutual understanding and mutual trust.

The two countries have advanced their practical cooperation while overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wang said, adding that exports of Portuguese agricultural and food products to China are growing rapidly, and that cooperation between large companies from both sides and tripartite cooperation are progressing smoothly.

Both China and Portugal are committed to practicing true multilateralism, he said.

Cuba

On Sept 20, Wang met with Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez, hailing the bilateral ties between Beijing and Havana while stressing the need for a stronger alignment of the two countries' development strategies.

Wang told Rodriguez that China and Cuba are good friends, good comrades and good brothers who trust each other and share a common destiny.

Noting that the heads of state of the two countries have forged good friendship and maintained close communication, Wang said China is willing to work with Cuba to deepen the two countries' unity and cooperation, and consolidate and develop their special friendly relationship under the guidance of the consensus between the two leaders.

Venezuela

Wang also met with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faria on Sept 20 and said that China values Venezuela's firm defense of national interests and dignity, as well as its national spirit in the fight against hegemony.

China will, as always, firmly support Venezuela in safeguarding national sovereignty, social stability and national dignity, and firmly support the Venezuelan people in choosing their own development path, Wang said.

Britain

Wang met with Britain's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly on Sept 20  and said that in the face of complex and grave challenges in today's world, the two countries, both as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should focus on mutually beneficial cooperation, and should avoid conflict and confrontation.

A sound China-Britain relationship is based upon mutual respect, with objective understanding as the prerequisite, and proper handling of differences as the key, Wang said.

He said he hopes that Britain's new government will view China and China-Britain relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and work together with China in the same direction, adding that he hopes the two sides can treat each other as equals, steer clear of interference, and carry out mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to advance the bilateral relationship along the right track.

Mali

Also on Sept 20, Wang and Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop agreed to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.

Noting that the current international situation is complex and volatile with increasing uncertainties, Wang said China is willing to work with Mali to sustain mutual understanding, support and trust, carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.

Argentina

Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Argentina, Wang met with Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero on Sept 20 and said that it is of great importance for China-Argentina relations to build on the past to make greater strides.

Under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, the two sides have promoted continuous and in-depth development of China-Argentina relations, he added.

Malta

Also noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Malta, Wang met on Sept 20 with Maltese Foreign Minister Ian Borg and said that the mutual respect, equal treatment, concern for each other's core concerns, and understanding of their chosen path and development model have all contributed to the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

The solid mutual trust established between the two countries has provided an important political guarantee for bilateral relations, Wang said.

Solomon Islands

Wang hailed the relations between China and Solomon Islands during a meeting on Sept 20 with Jeremiah Manele, foreign minister of the Pacific island country.

Wang told Manele that under the guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, fruitful outcomes have been yielded as a result of the all-round exchanges and cooperation between China and Solomon Islands over the past three years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, which has brought tangible benefits to the people of Solomon Islands.

Ethiopia

On Sept 19, Wang met with Ethiopia's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen and said China and Ethiopia are comprehensive strategic cooperative partners that trust each other.

China highly appreciates that Ethiopia adheres to the one-China principle and stands firmly with China on issues concerning China's core interests, Wang said, noting China will continue to uphold justice on issues concerning Ethiopia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

France

Wang also met on Sept 19 with French Foreign Affairs Minister Catherine Colonna and said that China and France, both permanent members of the Security Council, shoulder important responsibilities in maintaining international security and stability.

Both China and France advocate a multi-polar world and greater democracy in international relations, sustaining the core status of the United Nations, and championing the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, he said.

Nicaragua

Wang met with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada on Sept 19, during which both sides agreed to seize the opportunity presented by the one-year anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries and take the bilateral ties to a new level.

Wang said Chinese President Xi Jinping and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega have drawn a blueprint for the bilateral relations since the two sides resumed diplomatic ties in December last year, which has led to rapid development in the bilateral relations where fruitful early harvests have been achieved.

Gulf Cooperation Council countries

Also on Sept 19, Wang met with with foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, including Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, which now holds the rotating presidency of the GCC, GCC Secretary-General Nayef bin Falah Al-Hajraf, Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, as well as representatives from Qatar and Oman.

In the meeting, Wang said that with the attention and guidance of the leaders of China and the GCC, the relations between the two sides have been healthy, stable and growing in an all-round manner, and are at the forefront of China's relations with Arab countries.
