HKO to consider raising typhoon signal on Monday

HONG KONG - The Hong Kong Observatory will consider raising Typhoon Signal No 1 over the city on Monday due to a low pressure area in the South China Sea.

In a weather advisory on Sunday, the Observatory said the the area of low pressure will develop gradually into a tropical cyclone from Monday to Tuesday.

“Depending on the actual development and movement of the area of low pressure, the Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No 1 by then,” the HKO said.

The Observatory said the area of low pressure was expected to move towards the vicinity of western Guangdong and Hainan Island. 

Under the influence of its outer rainbands, it will be windy with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms over Hong Kong on Tuesday and Wednesday, the HKO said. 

There will be swells and members of the public should take note of the latest weather information from the Observatory, it added.
