Voters pin high hopes on HK’s future under Lee’s leadership

Members of Hong Kong’s Election Committee on Sunday expressed high hopes that chief executive candidate John Lee Ka-chiu will help the city scale new heights and see brighter prospects in the nation’s robust development.

They made their remarks to China Daily on Sunday after casting their votes in the sixth-term chief executive race — the first CE election under the improved electoral system.

Patrick Healy, chairman of Cathay Pacific Airways, who represents the Employers’ Federation of Hong Kong, said that Lee is an excellent candidate for the city’s top job.

Healy said he expects that Lee will deliver a bright future for Hong Kong, ensure a smooth recovery from the pandemic, and deepen the city’s integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

He also said he hopes Hong Kong can maintain stability and security in the next 25 years, and wishes the city and its people all the best.

Business leader Allan Zeman, chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group, said Lee’s results-oriented approach is what Hong Kong badly needs.

Zeman expressed support for Lee’s ambitious initiatives in housing, institutional reform, and enhancing Hong Kong’s competitiveness, saying these moves will bring great changes for the city.

He said he hopes that with a patriots-led administration, the city will evolve much stronger in the next 25 years, and play a greater role in the nation’s rapid development, especially in the Greater Bay Area.

He added that the arrangements in Sunday’s election were among the best seen in Hong Kong’s major elections and is a good model for the future.
