Colombia penalized for fan behavior in World Cup qualifiers

BOGOTA - Colombia has been ordered to play their next two home matches with limited spectators for fan infringements during 2022 World Cup qualifiers, world football governing body FIFA said on Monday.

The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) was also fined 55,000 Swiss francs ($56,000) in the ruling handed down by FIFA's disciplinary committee

The punishments relate to discriminatory behavior and disorderly conduct during Colombia's home qualifiers against Peru and Bolivia in Barranquilla on Jan 28 and March 24, respectively.

Colombia finished sixth in South America's World Cup qualifying group, one-point shy of a playoff berth.

Football's showpiece tournament will be played in Qatar from Nov 21 to Dec 18.
