Mainland health experts visit HK airport, health centers

HONG KONG - The mainland pandemic prevention and control expert delegation deployed by the central government to assist Hong Kong in its COVID-19 fight visited the Hong Kong International Airport and health centers in the city on Tuesday.

The delegation visited the airport, the Tin Shui Wai (Tin Yip Road) Community Health Centre and the Sham Shui Po District Health Centre to have a better grasp of the pandemic prevention measures being adopted at these places, according to a government statement issued late on Tuesday night.

The experts shared the mainland’s experience on preventing the importation of virus cases as the delegation toured the airport’s Temporary Specimen Collection Centre One and saw the quarantine measures and testing arrangements for inbound travelers

The experts also exchanged with clinicians experience on treating COVID-19 patients and were introduced to the pandemic prevention and control work at the health centers. 

Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu Chee, who joined the experts during the visit to the the Tin Shui Wai Community Health Centre, said health centers have been actively involved in promoting various anti-pandemic work at the district level.

“The centers are working in line with the government's epidemic control measures by providing information, and health education; as well as serving the public actively to fight the epidemic together. We are sparing no effort in curbing this wave of the epidemic and safeguarding citizens' lives," Chan said.

Led by Kan Biao, director of the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the expert delegation arrived Hong Kong on April 7 to start their work.
