HONG KONG - Teresa Cheng Yeuk-wah, secretary for justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said on Friday that as the only common law jurisdiction within the country, Hong Kong can utilize the unique advantages under the "one country, two systems and three jurisdictions" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Cheng made the remarks at a seminar on opportunities for Hong Kong's legal industry in the GBA.

The inaugural GBA Legal Professional Examination was held in July, with more than 650 Hong Kong legal professionals enrolled in courses organized by the Ministry of Justice, Cheng said.

Those who pass the examination can participate in practical training courses on mainland laws arranged by the Department of Justice of the HKSAR government in cooperation with mainland organs such as the Supreme People's Court, she said.

After passing the examination and obtaining the relevant practice certificate, Hong Kong legal practitioners can provide legal services in nine mainland cities in the GBA on civil and commercial matters to which the mainland laws apply, Cheng said, hoping that lawyers in Hong Kong would seize this opportunity and make good use of this arrangement in the GBA.
