China slams EU report on COVID-19 disinformation

HONG KONG - The Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) slammed the European External Action Service for accusing China of disinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued on Thursday, a spokesperson of the mission said the EEAS report “has no factual basis.”

“A disinformation report that has no factual basis is in itself an example of disinformation,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying in the statement.

On 28 April, the EEAS released its “Special Report Update: Short Assessment of Narratives and Disinformation Around the COVID-19 Pandemic”, accusing China and Russia of using state-controlled media to spread disinformation. It also claimed that “vaccine diplomacy” has replaced “mask diplomacy”.
