BEIJING - A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday slammed Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for challenging the one-China principle.

The DPP authority has overreached itself in challenging the one-China principle and will never succeed, said Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Zhu made the remarks in response to a recent article published on the US Department of Defense website, saying "Taiwan was never part of China," which was echoed by the DPP authority.

Taiwan is a part of China and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, which is a universal consensus of the international community, said Zhu.

"We urged the United States to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques," said Zhu.
