HONG KONG - Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said her government is willing to make all Hong Kong residents aged 16 or above eligible for vaccination if more doses arrive in the city.

Carrie Lam said the govt could consider a 14-day quarantine period as the rule was inconveniencing a lot of people

Speaking to reporters before an Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, Lam said the arrangement under consideration would make the inoculation process much simpler because then people would only need to present their ID cards to avail of vaccine doses.

As of Monday, 379,600 people had received their first vaccine shot - 243,800 were inoculated with the Sinovac vaccine and 135,800 with the BioNTech variety.

Lam said felt fine after receiving the second Sinovac dose on Monday.

Replying to a query on the likelihood of reducing the current three-week mandatory quarantine period to 14 days for inbound travelers from high-risk places, Lam said the government would study the feasibility because the rule was inconveniencing a lot of people. She said that there should be alternative safeguards in place to properly deal with imported cases.
