BERLIN - Titleholders Bayern Munich look like favorites against Paris St Germain and Borussia Dortmund are in the underdog role against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Bayern Munich this season showed some weakness in their defense which might allow PSG striker Kylian Mbappe (6 goals) to turn things around

After the draw on Friday, both German clubs will play on April 6/7 and 13/14.

The four German coaches involved won't meet in the last 8-round, and no German club duel has been drawn.

Thomas Tuchel is in charge of Chelsea (facing Porto). Juergen Klopp is running Liverpool (crossing swords with Real). Borussia Dortmund is coached by Edin Terzic, and titleholders Bayern Munich by Hansi Flick.

"This is last year's final composition. Paris will challenge us on the highest level as they have a new coach and a squad full of top-quality players," Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick commented: "The semifinal is our goal. We know about Paris's quality, but we can count on our strength to make it."

For Dortmund, the duels against City are less important than their hunt for one of the Champions League spots in the national league.

"Two clubs I would have preferred not to meet. That's Bayern and City. Now we have to take things as they are," sporting director Sebastian Kehl stated.

Not only Kingsley Coman will ever forget about that magic night of last season's final in Lisbon on August 23. The 59th minute the cross of Joshua Kimmich reached the head of the Frenchmen. The striker's header found its way into the goal of Paris, deciding a challenging game.

Looking at Bayern's starting 11 from 2020, only Thiago is missing after joining Liverpool last summer. The Bavarian's team leaders Manuel Neuer, Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Mueller and Robert Lewandowski are still around.

Proceeding to the semifinal would mean that Bayern would meet their former coach Pep Guardiola with the Citizens or repeat the 2013 final's duel against Dortmund.

Other than last year, Bayern this season showed some weakness in their defense which might allow Paris striker Kylian Mbappe (6 goals) to turn things around.

Dortmund

Looking for touching points between the club, one is ending up with Jadon Sancho. The 20-year-old striker has been educated in the Citizens talent academy but left after claiming not having received the expected attention.

German international Ilkay Guendogan can be seen as a Dortmund expert after playing in the Black and Yellow's shirt between 2011 - 2016 in 105 games (10 goals). In 2016 the midfielder joined the Sky-Blues. This season fans see him at his best, not only initiating deadly passes but developing into a reliable goal scorer.

The favorite seems assigned as the Citizens are regarded as the currently leading team in Europe aside from Bayern.

Dortmund is said to have more quality than the Citizens' last-16-round opponent Borussia Moenchengladbach (4-0 on aggregate). Not to speak of the Champions League's leading scorer Erling Haaland (10 goals).

Comparing the Norwegian goal-machine with the super-stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at the same age (20) might tell the story of his stunning quality.

Haaland scored 20 Champions League goals aside from 2 assists, while Ronaldo (0/1) and Messi (6/2) ended up with much less.

The duel of the Citizens best defender Ruben Dias against Haaland might decide about Dortmund's chances.
