HK logs 13 new COVID-19 cases, 3 linked to gym cluster

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 13 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, including 10 locally transmitted ones, bringing the city’s tally to 11,363.

Three of the fresh infections were linked to the gym cluster originated from Ursus Fitness in Sai Ying Pun, bringing the cluster’s total to 138, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection’s communicable disease branch, said at a briefing. They were one patron and two close contacts of previously confirmed patients in the cluster.

Four of Friday’s new cases were untraceable, Chuang added. Among them was a 23-year-old man who developed a fever on Wednesday. He last went to his workplace at Homesquare in Sha Tin on Tuesday, Chuang said.

Four of his family members were confirmed as infected but he had tested negative repeatedly during quarantine last month.

The remaining three untraceable cases involved a 62-year-old housewife living at Ping Tin Estate in Lam Tin, a 71-year-old male kitchen worker at Wo Sang Restaurant in Tuen Mun, and a 36-year-old man who worked at One Island East in Quarry Bay.

Among the three imported cases reported on Friday, two were from Indonesia and one the Philippines, according to Chuang.

There were fewer than 10 preliminarily positive cases, Chuang added.
