BUENOS AIRES - Uruguay international striker Edinson Cavani is unhappy at Manchester United and wants to return to South America to play for Argentine giants Boca Juniors, his father said on Tuesday.

Cavani's current deal at Man United is due to expire in June

Cavani, 34, has scored just seven times in 25 appearances across all competitions since joining United on a free transfer last October.

His struggles were compounded by a three-game suspension for using racist language on social media in November. Cavani later apologized and said the offending comment was a term of endearment in his homeland.

"He does not feel comfortable where he is," Luis Cavani told Argentine television channel TyC Sports. "He has been thinking for more than two years that he wants to be closer to the family and that is why I think Edi is going to end up playing for a team here in South America."

"Edinson has had many conversations with (Boca president Juan Roman) Riquelme and I would like him to play for Boca. I would like him to play for a team that has a chance of winning something and I think the move will happen at the end of the season."

Cavani's current deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in June but Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last month the club would seek to extend the former Paris Saint-Germain forward's contract.
