LONDON - Prince Charles visited his father the Duke of Edinburgh in a London hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Local media reported that Prince Charles arrived at the hospital in central London on Saturday afternoon and spent about 30 minutes together with his father who was admitted to the hospital as a precaution on Tuesday.

Prince Charles is the first member of the royal family to visit during the Duke's stay in hospital after feeling unwell.

On Friday, it was reported that the Duke was likely to remain in hospital into next week for rest and observation, although he was said to be in "good spirits".

The exact reason for his admission has not been disclosed but his stay is not related to coronavirus.

Philip, 99, retired from public duties in 2017 and rarely appears in public.

He has been staying with the Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle since coronavirus restrictions were first introduced in the country last year.
