BERLIN - Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich came back from two goals down but were held to a 3-3 draw at home by newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld in the German league's 21st round of matches on Monday.

Bayern started well and controled possession but the visitors made a dream start as Michel Vlap beat goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the ninth minute.

The hosts had difficulty implementing their style of play due to the snowy conditions, while Bielefeld's well-positioned defense kept the record German champions at bay.

Bielefeld defused Bayern's attacks and doubled their lead in the 37th minute as Vlap's corner found Amos Pieper, who headed home for 2-0.

Hansi Flick's men pressed frenetically for a goal but the score remained the same going into half-time.

After the restart, Bayern assumed control and halved the deficit three minutes into the half when Leroy Sane's long ball allowed Robert Lewandowski to volley home.

However, the visitors made it 3-1 just moments later when Christian Gebauer tapped home Andreas Voglsammer's cross.

Bayern shrugged off the shock and got back to business after Sane's cross met Corentin Tolisso, who overcame Bielefeld keeper Stefan Ortega in the 57th minute.

The hosts gained momentum and weren't done with the scoring as Alphonso Davies drilled a long-range effort into the top left corner to make it 3-3 with 70 minutes gone.

Both sides continued on the front foot and created promising chances in the closing stages, but both defenses stood firm to secure each side a share of the points.

"After the 2-0 lead we of course hoped for all three points, but we are nonetheless happy with the outcome," said Bielefeld head coach Uwe Neuhaus.

Said Bayern head coach Flick, "We did not gain a foothold into the game in the first half. Bielefeld played well and scored two goals from two chances. We turned up in the second half and scored three goals. In the end, we have to be content with the draw."

With the result, Bayern's advantage atop the standings shrinks to five points, while 16th-placed Bielefeld clinch a vital point in their relegation battle.
