BERLIN - Visiting Bayern Munich clinched its fifth straight Bundesliga win after beating Hertha Berlin 1-0 on Kingsley Coman's goal at the curtain raiser of the 20th round on Friday.

Hertha worked out the first chance of the match with three minutes played when Dodi Lukebakio was unable to beat onrushing Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer following a one-on-one.

Two minutes later, Bayern responded with a promising opportunity as Leroy Sane tested Berlin custodian Rune Jarstein from the edge of the box.

Bayern remained on the front foot and should have broken the deadlock in the 11th minute. Jarstein felled Sane inside the box but Robert Lewandowski wasn't able to overcome Berlin's goalkeeper from the penalty spot.

However, the visitors eventually opened the scoring 10 minutes later as Coman's deflected shot from 16 meters caught hapless Jarstein flat-footed.

Hansi Flick's men kept the momentum but neither Coman nor Lewandowski was able to extend the lead despite clear-cut chances in the closing stages of the first half.

The German giants kept Hertha's defense busy as Serge Gnabry unleashed a hammer, forcing Jarstein into action with two minutes gone in the second half.

As the match progressed, Bayern retracted and allowed Hertha to gain a foothold into the game.

New arrival and substitute Nemanja Radonjic increased Berlin's momentum as he overcame Neuer with his first touch of the ball but the equalizer didn't count due to a clear offside position.

The capital club focused on fast breaks and almost stunned Bayern as Neuer had to be on guard to defuse Matteo Guendouzi's close-range attempt from a tight angle.

Berlin's biggest chance of the game came in the game's dying minutes when Matheus Cunha had all time and space but chipped the ball past beaten Neuer and the goal to leave his side empty-handed.

With the result, Bayern Munich extend their lead atop the standings to 10 points, whereas Hertha Berlin stay in 15th place and in touching distance to the relegation play-off spot.

"I can't reproach my team. We had a couple of chances and defended very well," Hertha Berlin head coach Pal Dardai said.

The following fixtures are set for Saturday: Bayer Leverkusen host newly-promoted Stuttgart, Freiburg encounter Borussia Dortmund, bottom side Schalke clash with runners-up Leipzig, Mainz face Union Berlin, Augsburg take on third-placed Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach see Cologne.
