Luo noted that the police, after being forged and refined during this period, have developed into a strong and reliable law enforcement body to maintain Hong Kong’s stability and safeguard national security.

According to the city’s Security Bureau, 483 police officers were injured from June 2019 till the end of November that year when the often-violent protests were at their worst.

Luo met with officers who sustained burns after having petrol bombs thrown at them, those who had their eyes damaged by laser pointer-wielding radicals, and those injured when they were shot with arrows or steel ball bearings.

Luo lavished praise on the wounded officers and commended them for their courage in the face of danger and their determination to enforce the law.

In expressing hopes that frontline officers stay safe when discharging their duty, Luo also encouraged the force to keep up the momentum and live up to their duties as loyal guardians who safeguard the national security and uphold the stability of the city.

Commissioner of Police Chris Tang Ping-keung said the police, with the support of the central government and Lam’s leadership, have been able to end the chaos and violence through a united effort.
