Mainland sees 90 local virus cases among 107 new infections

BEIJING - The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 107 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 90 locally transmitted cases and 17 arriving from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said Saturday.

Of the new local cases, 56 were reported in Heilongjiang, 15 in Hebei, 13 in Jilin, three in Shanghai and three in Beijing, the commission said in its daily report.

Eight of the fresh imported cases were reported in Shanghai, four in Shanxi, two in Jiangsu and one each in Hunan, Guangdong and Sichuan, the commission said.

Two new suspected cases were posted in Shanghai, of which one was imported, while no deaths related to the disease were reported, said the commission.

Another 31 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while 1,750 others were still being treated, including 85 in severe condition, according to the commission.

As of Friday, a total number of 4,589 imported cases had been reported on the mainland with no deaths. Of those cases, 4,296 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 293 remained hospitalized, the commission said.

Overall, the mainland had reported a total of 88,911 confirmed cases, including 82,526 recoveries and 4,635 deaths.

There were three suspected cases on the mainland on Friday, while 36,503 close contacts remained under medical observation.

Friday also saw 99 newly reported asymptomatic cases, of which 10 were imported, while 30 asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases.

There were 961 asymptomatic cases still under medical observation, of which 270 arrived from outside the mainland.  

By the end of Friday, 9,928 confirmed cases, including 168 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 47 cases in the Macao SAR, and 881 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 8,948 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, 46 in the Macao SAR and 777 in Taiwan.
