Investors still confident in HK, says AmCham HK chair

HONG KONG - Jessica Bartlett, chairwoman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham HK), said Friday that many investors still have confidence in the Hong Kong market and remain very keen to be in Asia and Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong...is a very resilient place," Bartlett said. "That's a place that they (investors) want to continue to invest. They see this region as a growth region."

She added that the chamber has not seen mass exits of US capital after the National Security Law in Hong Kong was implemented.

The AmCham HK said in a report released recently that most surveyed businesses expect Hong Kong to remain as their regional headquarters for the next three years and half of the surveyed businesses are cautiously optimistic they will perform better in 2021.

Besides, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is viewed by businesses as an opportunity for future profits, and nearly 60 percent of surveyed businesses already have set up offices or plan to expand their presence in the area, according to the report.
