The Hengqin Branch of Zhuhai People's Hospital on Wednesday signed contracts with 53 Macao doctors to practice directly at the mainland hospital.

It is the latest implementation of a series of new cross-border professional-qualification and practice measures in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to the new regulation, qualified physicians in Hong Kong and Macao can receive mainland physician qualifications upon registering at the place of practice, eliminating a previous requirement to pass the mainland qualification exams

Xin Yongjie, vice-president of the hospital, said most of these Macao physicians in the hospital now are traditional Chinese medicine doctors, covering the digestive, respiratory, and cardiology departments.

The two cities are also exploring transfer treatment mechanisms and mutual recognition of medical inspection test results in order to provide more convenient health services for Macao residents in the city, Xin said.

About a quarter of patients received by the Hengqin Hospital in Zhuhai last year were from Macao.  

A large-scale residential and commercial project for Macao residents, the Macau New Neighborhood, began construction last week. The project is expected to attract more Macao residents to the zone and strengthen the two cities' integration.
