ACL: Iniesta leads Vissel Kobe past Evergrande, Yokohama edges SIPG

DOHA - Andres Iniesta contributed one goal and one assist to help Vissel Kobe of Japan beat Guangzhou Evergrande of China 3-1 in the AFC Champions League here on Wednesday, while Yokohama F Marinos edged out Shanghai SIPG 1-0.

In the duel of Group G, former FC Barcelona legend Iniesta was the driving force of Vissel Kobe from the start, disrupting the Evergrande defense from the left side to assist Kyogo Furuhashi to score the first goal in the 45th minute.

Despite Kyogo Furuhashi then making an own goal on Xu Xin's corner kick at 55 minutes, Brazilian striker Douglas lashed into the net to put Vissel Kobe 2-1 ahead of Evergrande again.

With the 36-year-old Iniesta slotting in a fine strike from the box at 84 minutes, the Japanese side closed out a well-deserved 3-1 win.

In a lifeless first half between Shanghai SIPG and Yokohama F Marinos, both sides couldn't create chances to score. Brazilian Oscar wasted a golden opportunity to break the deadlock with his 81st-minute spot-kick.

Amano Jun rebounded a goal in the 90th minute after Teruhito Nakagawa's header was refused by SIPG keeper Chen Wei, helping Yokohama seal a 1-0 win.

Elsewhere in Group H, Na Sung-eun's winning goal in the 44th minute helped Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea beat Australian club Sydney FC 1-0 for their first victory.
