Mainland reports no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases

BEIJING - The Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said Wednesday.

The mainland saw five new imported cases, of which two were posted in Shanghai while Fujian, Guangdong and Shaanxi reported one case each

A total of five imported COVID-19 cases were reported, of which two were posted in Shanghai while Fujian, Guangdong and Shaanxi saw one case each, the commission said in its daily report.

One suspected locally transmitted case was reported in Inner Mongolia, the commission said.

No additional deaths related to the disease were reported.

Another 22 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, adding that there were 305 others still being treated, including six in severe condition.

As of Tuesday, the mainland had reported 3,809 imported cases in total. Of those cases, 3,523 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 286 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported from imported cases. 

Overall, the mainland had reported 86,469 confirmed cases, including 81,530 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, according to the commission.

There were currently two suspected cases on the mainland, while 11,566 close contacts were still under medical observation after 536 were released from observation, according to the commission.

Also on Tuesday, six new asymptomatic cases, four of which arriving from outside the mainland, were reported and one asymptomatic case was re-categorized as a confirmed case.

A total of 335 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation, with 330 arriving from outside the mainland.

By the end of Tuesday, 5,781 confirmed cases, including 108 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while Macao SAR has recorded 46 cases and Taiwan has logged 618 cases, including seven deaths..

A total of 5,274 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR and 549 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
