Commissioner's office: Any interference in HK will fail
By Wang Zhan

HONG KONG – The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday condemned the joint statement on Hong Kong by the “Five Eyes” alliance.

In a statement, a spokesperson of the Commissioner’s office expressed strong disapproval and firm opposition to alliance’s move, adding that it was an “arbitrary interference in Hong Kong affairs, which are China’s internal affairs.”

The joint statement contained groundless accusations against the decision by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPCSC) on the qualification of LegCo members of the HKSAR and against the central government’s Hong Kong policy, the spokesperson said.

“The allegation that China has breached international commitments is simply unjustifiable…We urge the relevant countries to immediately stop applying double standards, provoking ideological clashes, or forming small circles with a Cold War mentality,” the spokesperson added.
