1 local case in Tianjin among mainland's 8 fresh infections

BEIJING/TIANJIN - China's National Health Commission said Wednesday that it received reports of eight newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, of which one was domestically transmitted while the remaining seven were imported.

Tianjin reported one confirmed cases and another asymptomatic case, both of who are employees at a logistics park in the Binhai New Area, according to local health authorities

The new local case was reported in Tianjin, the commission and local health authorities said. One new asymptomatic case was also posted in the city, the local health authorites said.

Both people work at a logistics park in the Binhai New Area and are colleagues and roommates of a previously diagnosed asymptomatic case, according to the city's center for disease control and prevention.

The center said both cases were diagnosed during their quarantined medical observation after they were identified as close contacts of the asymptomatic case.

Meanwhile, four of the fresh imported infections on the mainland were posted in Shanghai, and one each in Shanxi, Liaoning and Guangdong, the commission said in its daily report.

No additional suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said.

Another 37 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, it said, adding that 324 others were still being treated, including three in severe condition.

Four of the fresh imported infections were posted in Shanghai, and one each in Shanxi, Liaoning and Guangdong, the National Health Commission said

By the end of Tuesday, a total of 3,723 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 3,412 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 311 remained hospitalized. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

Overall, the mainland had recorded a total of 86,369 confirmed cases, including 81,411 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, the commission said.

There were currently no suspected cases on the mainland, while 13,974 close contacts were still under medical observation after 379 were released from observation, according to the commission.

Tuesday also reported five new asymptomatic cases, including four arriving from outside the mainland. Two cases, all imported, were re-categorized as confirmed cases on the same day.

A total of 456 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation, with 387 arriving from outside the mainland.

By the end of Tuesday, 5,470 confirmed cases, including 108 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while the Macao SAR has recorded 46 cases, and Taiwan had registered 605 cases, including seven deaths.

A total of 5,212 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR and 539 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
