CE set to leave for Beijing to discuss HK's economic recovery

HONG KONG – Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor will head for Beijing on Tuesday, as she is expected to meet central government officials over Hong Kong’s economic recovery and integration into national development.

Three weeks ago, Lam postponed this year’s Policy Address, a first in the city’s history, after being informed that she should visit the capital in person for talks about the central government tailoring supportive measures for the special administrative region.

Lam will leave for Beijing via Shenzhen on Tuesday afternoon and hold meetings with relevant ministries during her stay in the capital

She will depart for Guangzhou on Friday evening and meet with the leaders of Guangdong province and Shenzhen, in Guangzhou and Shenzhen respectively on Saturday, to discuss how to move forward the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development and Hong Kong-Shenzhen cooperation.

Secretary for Transport and Housing Frank Chan Fan, Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee; Secretary for Innovation and Technology Alfred Sit Wing-hang, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu, as well as Director of the Chief Executive’s Office Chan Kwok-ki will join the visit.

Lam earlier said she would try to deliver the Policy Address, her fourth while in office, at the end of this month.
