1 local case in Shandong among mainland's 25 fresh infections

BEIJING - Chinese health authorities said Thursday that it received reports of 25 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Thursday, including one locally transmitted case and 24 imported infections.

The new local case was reported in east China's Shandong province, the commission said in its daily report.

Among the new 24 imported cases, 13 were posted in Shanghai, four in Fujian, two each in Tianjin, Guangdong and Sichuan, and one in Yunnan, the National Health Commission said

It added that the mainland also recorded 53 fresh asymptomatic cases, of which 39 were imported.

Six new suspected cases from outside the mainland were posted in Shanghai, the commission said. 

No additional deaths related to the disease were reported.

Another 24 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, said the commission, adding that there were 339 patients still being treated, including seven in severe condition.

By the end of Thursday, a total of 3,332 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 3,044 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 288 remained hospitalized. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

So far, a total of 85,940 confirmed cases have been reported on the mainland, including 80,967 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, the commission said.

Currently, there were six suspected cases on the mainland, while 12,863 close contacts were still under medical observation after 1,255 were released from observation, according to the commission. 

No asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases, while 592 asymptomatic cases, including 439 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation, the commission said.

By Thursday, 5,313 confirmed cases, including 105 deaths, have been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), while 46 cases had been reported in Macao SAR, and 553 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 5,073 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong SAR, 46 in Macao SAR and 513 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
