6 local cases in Shandong among 20 new infections on mainland

BEIJING/QINGDAO - Chinese mainland health authorities said Wednesday that it received reports of 20 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, including six locally transmitted cases and 14 imported ones.

All the local cases were posted in Shandong province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report. 

Six of the 14 new imported cases were reported in Guangdong, five in Shanghai, and three in Shaanxi, the National Health Commission

Of the new imported cases reported on Tuesday, six were reported in Guangdong, five in Shanghai, and three in Shaanxi, the commission said.

No additional deaths related to the disease or new suspected cases were reported, according to the commission. 

Another seven patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, adding that there were 241 patients still being treated, including four in severe condition.

As of Tuesday, the mainland has reported a total of 85,611 confirmed cases, including 4,634 deaths, according to the commission.

Altogether, 80,736 patients had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

So far, a total of 3,050 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of which, 2,821 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 229 remained hospitalized, the commission said. No deaths had been reported from the imported cases.

There were five suspected cases on the mainland, the commission said, adding that 8,912 close contacts were still under medical observation after 321 were released from observation.

Eighteen new asymptomatic cases, all from outside the mainland, were reported, and seven asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed cases.

According to the commission, 381 asymptomatic cases, including 379 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation.

By Tuesday, 5,201 confirmed cases, including 105 deaths, had been reported in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), with 46 cases reported in Macao SAR, and 530 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 4,931 COVID-19 patients in Hong Kong SAR, 46 in Macao SAR and 489 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
