Russian PM urges immediate cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh region

YEREVAN / BAKU - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Friday called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately cease military action in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

"It is necessary to ensure the immediate cessation of all military actions and start the diplomatic resolution of this conflict," local Armenpress quoted Mishustin as saying during a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan.

Mishustin stressed that Russia is ready to contribute to this peace process together with other Co-Chair countries of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group.

On his part, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia is ready to resume the peace process in accordance with the latest statements of leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries, according to Armenpress.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov will pay a working visit to Moscow on Friday.

A new round of clashes broke out on Sept 27 along the contact line of the Nagorno-Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at loggerheads over the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh region since 1988. Peace talks have been held since 1994 when a cease-fire was reached, but there have been occasional minor clashes along the borders.
