MACAO - The Judiciary Police of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will set up a new department for safeguarding national security, the SAR government said on Tuesday.

The SAR government said in a statement that the judiciary police will create the security department and its subunits focusing on safeguarding national security according to the Organization and Operation of the Judiciary Police. The amended administrative regulation was published on Tuesday and will enter into force on Oct 12, the government said.

The subunits include information division, crimes investigation division, operational support division, general affairs division, terrorism crimes alert and investigation division, and cybersecurity division.

Macao listed the crimes endangering national security under the jurisdiction of the judiciary police in order to provide a faster response in combating terrorism and cybercrime.
