Mainland posts 8 new imported cases, no new local infections

BEIJING - No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Monday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Tuesday.

Eight fresh imported cases were reported, of which four were posted in Guangdong and one each in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Sichuan and Yunnan, the commission said in its daily report.

Four of the new imported cases were posted in Guangdong while Shanghai, Zhejiang, Sichuan and Yunnan each reported one case, the National Health Commission said

No new suspected COVID-19 cases or additional deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said.

Eleven more patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, adding that there were 142 patients still being treated.

By the end of Monday, a total of 2,653 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 2,511 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery while 142 others remained hospitalized, with one in severe condition. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

So far, a total of 85,202 confirmed cases had been reported on the mainland, including 80,426 recoveries and 4,634 deaths, according to the commission.

There were two suspected cases on the mainland, while 6,513 close contacts were still under medical observation after 471 were released from observation, according to the commission.

Nine new asymptomatic cases, all from outside the mainland, were reported. There were 361 asymptomatic cases, including 360 from outside the mainland, still under medical observation, the commission said.

By the end of Monday, 4,971 confirmed cases, including 101 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), together with 46 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR and 499 cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 4,635 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 476 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
