HK sees 64 new virus cases, 12th death as 94-year-old patient dies

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 60 locally transmitted COVID-19 infections and its 12th death on Saturday as the financial hub battled a third wave of infection.

The latest patient in Hong Kong to die from COVID-19 was a 94-year-old man with chronic disease

Apart from the 60 local cases, the city reported four new imported cases, said health officials at a press briefing on Saturday afternoon. The latest infections brought Hong Kong's coronavirus tally to 1,777.

Among the 60 local cases, 35 were of unknown origins, officials said. 

The latest patient to die from the disease was a 94-year-old man with chronic disease. 

In a press release, a spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital said the patient passed away at 10.08 am Saturday.

He is the fifth COVID-19 patient to die in six days in the special administrative region.
