COVID-19: HK reports 6th death, 16 new imported cases

HONG KONG - Hong Kong reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 caused by a novel coronavirus and the city’s sixth COVID-19 death on Tuesday.  

A 72-year-old man was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital on June 4 with no symptoms but his condition later deteriorated , said a spokesman for the hospital

A 72-year-old man was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital on June 4 with no symptoms and was in a stable condition, said a spokesman for the hospital.

His condition later deteriorated and he was transferred to the intensive care unit on June 10, where he required renal replacement therapy and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for assisted breathing as well as inotropic infusion.

His condition further deteriorated and he eventually passed away at 2:19 am on Tuesday.

The case brought the number of COVID-19 patients that have passed away in Hong Kong to six.

Also on Tuesday, the Center for Health Protection said it was investigating 16 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases, which brought the total number of infections in the city to 1,177.

The newly reported cases involved nine males and seven females aged between 11 and 48. All of them had a travel history during the incubation period.
