ASEAN discusses social-cultural priorities for 2020

HANOI — The 28th meeting of Senior Officials Committee for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (SOCA) was held via video conference on Monday under the chair of Vietnam's Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, discussing the bloc's priorities in 2020.

At the meeting, the ASEAN member countries agreed to promote the progress of and effectively implement working plans, as well as review the implementation of those plans in the past five years

At the meeting, the ASEAN member countries agreed to promote the progress of and effectively implement working plans, as well as review the implementation of those plans in the past five years, in order to support the Mid-Term Review of the Implementation of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint 2025 at both national and regional levels, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The mid-term report is expected to be submitted to the 37th ASEAN Summit slated for November this year.

The members also agreed to submit two documents including ASEAN Declaration on Human Resources Development for the Changing World of Work and Terms of Reference of the ASEAN Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council to the 23rd ASCC meeting for approval.

As ASEAN Chair 2020, Vietnam will promote discussions and prioritize fields including labor and human resources development, health, communication and information, ASEAN culture, youth, and environment and climate change, the news agency reported.
