The ban was imposed when he was granted bail after pleading not guilty to one count of criminal intimidation last month.

Lai, 72, founder of Hong Kong-based newspaper Apple Daily, is accused of intimidating a reporter in 2017. A trial is scheduled to be held for three days starting Aug 19.

He was also charged with five counts for his alleged roles in three unauthorized assemblies during last year’s social unrest.
