HONG KONG -  The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Thursday firmly opposed and condemned the groundless comments by certain US politicians against the central government and the HKSAR government.

Certain US politicians, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Senator Marco Rubio, made groundless accusations against and exerted pressure on the central and the HKSAR governments, the spokesperson for the office noted.

The evil intention of these "black hands" has already been laid bare, a spokesperson for the office said

While the central and the HKSAR governments are bringing Hong Kong society together to fight COVID-19 and restore the economy, some US politicians have kept making unwarranted allegations against the HKSAR legislative and judicial authorities' performance of duty, and tried to whitewash the anti-China troublemakers' criminal acts, the spokesperson said.

The last thing these politicians want to see is that Hong Kong heals social divisions and returns to the right track. The evil intention of these "black hands" has already been laid bare, the spokesperson pointed out.

By either citing or alluding to the so-called "Hong Kong human rights and democracy act," a domestic legislation of the United States, Pompeo has blatantly intimidated the HKSAR government and obstructed its law-based governance, meddled with Hong Kong affairs, which are purely China's domestic affairs, and trampled international law and basic norms governing international relations, the spokesperson said.

The Hong Kong residents firmly supporting "one country, two systems" and all the 1.4 billion Chinese people who are united as one are not to be frightened, the spokesperson said.

"The Chinese government is firmly committed to upholding national sovereignty, security and development interests, to implementing the 'one country, two systems' policy, and to opposing any external interference in Hong Kong affairs," the spokesperson added.
