BEIJING - China's third-tier football club Baoding Yingli Yitong failed in an attempt to sue the Chinese Football Association (CFA), club owner Meng Yongqiang revealed.

On April 23, Meng posted on social media a letter from a Beijing court showing that his club had lodged a lawsuit in late March against the CFA, which was returned by the court.

The letter, dated back to April 14, 2020, states that the Dongcheng District Court has no jurisdiction over the CFA, which is situated in the neighboring district of Chaoyang.

Meng did not reveal the content of the lawsuit.

In February 26, he said his club would take legal action against the CFA to recover losses allegedly resulting from the latter's mismanagement.

"Baoding Yingli Yitong FC today initiated legal proceedings to seek compensation from the CFA, whose mismanagement has infringed on the club's interests and led to [financial] loss," he said.

Meng's club, based in Baoding, some 150km southwest of Beijing, has developed a strained relationship with the CFA in recent months.

On February 13, Meng announced that his club had decided to apply to the CFA for withdrawal from China's third-tier professional league, though it reversed its decision one day later, saying the CFA had no right to authorize the club's pullout.
