LOS ANGELES — A female-centric Star Wars TV series is in development at Disney+ streaming service, according to US media outlets.

Headland is best known for her work as director of 2012 film "Bachelorette" and 2015 film "Sleeping with Other People"

The new Star Wars original TV series will be written and showrun by American screenwriter and director Lesley Headland but details of the exact plot of the series are being kept under wraps, US entertainment news outlet Variety reported on Wednesday.

Headland is best known for her work as director of 2012 film "Bachelorette" and 2015 film "Sleeping with Other People" and co-creator of Netflix's popular comedy-drama television series "Russian Doll."

Sources told Variety that the series takes place in a different part of the "Star Wars" timeline than other projects.

The first live action TV series in the Star Wars franchise, "The Mandalorian," premiered with the launch of Disney+ on November 12, 2019, is a huge success for the streaming service to get more subscribers.

Variety reported that a third season of "The Mandalorian" is already in the works at Disney+ ahead of the second season premiere later this year.

Two other Star Wars series are also in the works at Disney+: an Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor, and a "Rogue One" prequel series starring Diego Luna, according to Variety.
