"My dear friends from all over the world, ... I want you to know that the Santos Football Club is celebrating today," said Pele, who guided the club to two Copa Libertadores titles and two Intercontinental Cups in the early 1960s.

"I'm very honored to have been a part of the club's history. I want to thank all of those who have supported us and still love Santos," added Brazil's legendary three-time World Cup winner.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, who also won the Copa Libertadores with Santos as a teenager in 2011, said: "I want to congratulate Santos ... and say that it was a very important club for me, for my career. It is a club that I am completely passionate about. Long live Santos."
