Volleyball test event for Tokyo Olympics canceled

TOKYO - The volleyball test event for the Tokyo Olympic Games has been canceled due to the global spread of the coronavirus, organizers of Tokyo 2020 announced here on Monday.

"Tokyo 2020 has received notification from the Japan Volleyball Association that the 2020 Volleyball Ariake Arena Test Match - Tokyo Challenge Cup - scheduled to take place between April 21 and 26, has been canceled due to concerns relating to COVID-19.

"Tokyo 2020 will carry out an operational test within the given dates and will consult with the International Olympic Committee, Federation Internationale de Volleyball and other relevant organizations to determine the content of such tests.

"We will continue to stay in close collaboration with all relevant organizations as we prepare to deliver a safe and secure Tokyo 2020 Games."

Test events for rugby sevens, boccia and climbing for the Olympics or Paralympics have also been canceled or postponed over concerns of the virus.
