More new cases of recovery than new infections for 6th day

BEIJING - Chinese health authorities on Monday said it received reports of 409 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and 150 deaths on Sunday from 31 provincial-level regions on the mainland.

Sunday marked the fifth consecutive day that China's daily number of new infections remained under 1,000.

The daily number of recovered patients who were discharged from hospital surpassed that of new confirmed infections for the sixth consecutive day, according to the National Health Commission

The number of new confirmed cases outside Hubei dropped to 11 on Sunday from the 18 cases on Saturday, according to the National Health Commission.  

Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, reported 398 new confirmed cases, bringing the province's to 64,287, according to the commission.

Wuhan, the provincial capital, reported 348 new confirmed cases and 131 new deaths on Sunday. In total, the city has reported 46,607 confirmed cases and 1,987 deaths.

No new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported Sunday in 24 provincial-level regions of China, namely Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Henan, Hunan, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang (including the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps), Shaanxi, Gansu and Inner Mongolia, according to the commission.

Among the daily new fatalities, 149 were in Hubei and one in Hainan province, according to the commission.

The daily number of recovered patients who were discharged from hospital surpassed that of new confirmed infections for the sixth consecutive day, according to the commission.

Sunday saw 1,846 people walk out of hospital after recovery, much higher than the number of the same day's new confirmed infections, which was 409, figures from the commission showed.

In addition, the number of recovered patients in both Hubei and Wuhan outnumbered the number of new infections Sunday, according to the commission. 

Hubei saw 1,439 recovered patients discharged from hospital on Sunday, bringing the total number of discharged patients in the province to 16,738. 

Another 620 new suspected cases were reported Sunday, said the commission, while the number of severe cases decreased by 1,053 to 9,915.

The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 77,150 by the end of Sunday, and 2,592 people had died of the disease.

A total of 24,734 people had been discharged from hospital after recovery.

The commission added that 3,434 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus.

The commission said 635,531 close contacts had been traced, adding that among them, 16,758 were released from medical observation Sunday, with 97,481 others still under medical observation.

By the end of Sunday, 74 confirmed cases including two deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 10 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 28 in Taiwan including one death.

Twelve patients in Hong Kong, six in Macao and five in Taiwan have been discharged from hospital after recovery.
