BERLIN - Borussia Dortmund remain in the hunt for the top spot after beating Werder Bremen 2-0 at the 23rd round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

With the result, Dortmund keep the pace with front runners Bayern Munich and move on the 2nd place for the moment in the Bundesliga

Erling Haaland's ninth goal in his sixth Bundesliga appearance wrapped up Dortmund's 13th win of the season.

Werder grabbed the reins from the kick off and were able to put the visitors on the back foot.

Dortmund needed some time to gain a foothold into the game but for all that their attacking power lacked in penetration.

Neither Bremen nor Dortmund were able to produce goalscoring opportunities in the first 45 minutes as both defences were on guard and neutralized all actions in front of penalty box.

After the restart, the match eventually sparked to life as Dan-Axel Zagadou tapped home a corner to break the deadlock out of the blue with seven minutes into the second half.

Dortmund grew in confidence and piled on the pressure whereas the "Green-Whites" couldn't hold the pace.

The visitors pressure paid off in the 66th minute when Haaland poked home a square pass to the near post from Achraf Hakimi.

The "BVB" should have added more goals in the closing period but neither Jadon Sancho nor Hakimi were able to make the most of their promising chances.

"It was a difficult game for us but sometimes you have to open the scoring with a dead ball goal. It was overall a patient performance of the whole team," Dortmund midfielder Emre Can said.

With the result, Lucien Favre's men keep the pace with front runners Bayern Munich and move on the 2nd place for the moment meanwhile relegation threatened Werder Bremen remain trapped in Bundesliga bottom after suffering their fifth straight defeat in the league.
